The dog days of August are upon us with the heat, humidity and usually dry weather. But so far August has been a month of rain. A costal vacation was characterized by days of constant rainfall. However, it didn’t stop the pursuit of this month’s tasks. Hot, the Nightshift, Tourist and Complicated made it again challenging.

Week 33: Some Like it Hot- Like the Movie, or not.

Some like it hot and they find a way to cool off, especially in August. Amusement parks are a great place to cool off. The rides offer “auto air conditioning” and water rides. The Pompeii Tours ride at Bush Gardens in Williamsburg, VA is a great place to do that. Always hot and humid in August, riders cool off during the ride and both riders and spectators get their cooling refreshment at the end of the ride.

Week 34: The Tourist- Go Ahead, play detective.

The North American Monarch Butterfly is truely a Tourist. Absent from Western Pennsylvania the past several years due to a variety of factors, they have returned. Soon they will make a return trip to their winter home in the Sierra Madre Mountains in Mexico. They navigate by a combination of the son’s compass and sensing the Earth’s magnetic field thru their antennae on cloudy days. The US Forest Service notes that they are the only butterfly species to make the two way trip. The one-way trek may take up to two months and covers up to 3000 miles. I was delighted to again see them checking out the variety of garden attractions in our yard this August.

Week 35: Nightshift- Like the Song, or not.

Nightshift is the Commodores 1985 tribute to their fallen friends, singers Jackie Wilson and Marvin Gaye. The Nightshift refers to them living in the afterworld and the difficulty that nightshift workers endure working in darkness. Their bodies are out of sync with the people they know. The chorus addresses the Nightshift:

Week 36: Complicated- Like the Song, or not.

This image from Arlington, VA was first passed over when importing it into Lightroom. It proved interesting to my eyes later when I decided to truly see it. The reflection with its leading lines and chair highlighted the subject of the shot in the curved glass window of a corner retail store. A complicated image with a variety of objects, people, events and reflections, like our lives.

I hope you enjoyed my interpretation of the tasks. Thanks to the Full Framers for starting this project and providing this formitable challenge. And thanks to all the submitters to this project as their images and discussions are inspiring.
